Be Mindful of Water Pressure
High water pressure might seem desirable, especially for showers, but it can cause significant damage to your plumbing system over time. Excessive water pressure puts unnecessary stress on pipes, joints, and appliances, leading to wear and tear. Over time, this can cause leaks, pipe bursts, and even shorten the lifespan of your water heater, dishwasher, and washing machine.
Water pressure should ideally be in the range of 40 to 60 psi (pounds per square inch). If your pressure exceeds this range, it’s time to consider installing a pressure-reducing valve (PRV). Signs of high water pressure include banging noises from pipes (often referred to as "water hammer"), fluctuating temperatures in the shower, or unusually strong spurts of water from faucets.
Monitoring your water pressure can help you avoid plumbing failures down the road. At FH Plumbing Inc., we can help you check your water pressure and install the necessary devices to regulate it, ensuring the longevity of your plumbing system and appliances.
